81 KZ550 LTD Custom Levers and Master Cylinder Opt was created by Johnny NoPants
I have a 1981 KZ550 LTD that I have been fixing up. Bought it not running, and am ordering some "cosmetic" parts. I found these on eBay, and wanted to know if they would be ideal for this bike, running single front disc brakes.
Motorcycle Clutch Brake Levers Set 7/8 Black Handlebars #753
Anyone have some insight? I don't want to order them if they will not work for my setup.
Also, anyone have any suggestions for new master cylinder, lever sets? I am looking for Black, NON-Stock, with NO mirror mount on the brake side (Mirror mount on clutch side used for GPS mount).

Hey,
I'm working on an '82 KZ550. Luckily, mine is running. I've been looking into a new lever setup similar to what you are looking at.
The best input I have with it would be what type of bars you want to put on it. The stock mounts for an '81 and '82 are the same meaning the bars would need to be 7/8" at the mount at least. So, these should work fine with the setup you're looking to go for.
And I'm confused with your second question? Are you looking to get this and get a different master cylinder than comes with it? That shouldn't be too hard but would most likely mean a different mount separate from the one provided. But, it looks like it should work well and I think I might get a set myself.

Well, I ordered that set, and got an email from the seller about them being on a holiday. They will ship some time next week.
I was just looking for a nice matched set to put on my rebuild. Frame, wheels, tank, side covers, and fenders are at the media blaster for cleanup and paint right now. I will post some pics soon of the rebuild process.

I got the bike put back together and running, and have these installed. They are perfect! CNC Machined aluminum handles, and cast aluminum perchs. Master cylinder is sufficient for single rotor setup; works great on mine. They also have 6 adjustable positions for lever pull. I use mine on 1, and have no issues with braking or clutch pull. I have superbike bars on my KZ, and the master cylinder mounts next to the stock throttle housing with no issues. I do think I will need a shorter brake line coming out of the master cylinder. I will snap some pics and post them tonight.
@DaddyJama, Yes, this is a master cylinder and clutch perch handle kit
Overall impression:
Function - 10/10
Style - 10/10
Price - 9/10

@DaddyJama - I used the brake lines that were on the bike from the PO. They were braided steel, and the right length.
@djplatinum50 - I chopped the original fender down, and bent it at a 90 degree angle to accommodate the new Brake/Tail/Turn signal assembly.
