How wide of tire? was created by MTH76
I am putting a GS1000 swing arm with a 3.5 inch wide rim on a stock hub.
With no offset on the countershaft sprocket can I use a 150 wide or go with a 140.
I know alot of people use this combination so any help would be great.

I've got a 150 on mine, it's close but it clears the chain. I'm not running a GS swinger though.

Hi Mark, Convert to 530 chain set up. You will gain 1/4 a side. The 150 tire will clear no problem
I have a 3/8 offset on a 4" Hog wheel with a 150 tire. But that has a big EK630 drag race chain
That is a nice swingarm and wheel set up you have. How much for that whole set up? with the brake set up.

a lot of guys have dif wheels or arms. the best thing to do is just put the rim and tire on. then use a straight edge or string line to figure out the sprocket offset yourself.
z1kzonly u may want to check your specs,a 630 to 530 will not save a 1/4" per side.

I have a gs1100 swinger with 530 chain and a 150 tire on mine, although my rim is a 4.5 inch gsxr.If I remember correctly the 530 and 630 chain were quite similar in width but quite different in weight, the 520 is much smaller, opinions vary on that.the stringline method works fine for offset.

Reducing chain size from 630 or 530 to 520 narrows the overall chain width by 1/8", which provides an additional 1/16" between the chain and tire sidewall.
630 and 530 are each 3/8" wide -- same width.
520 is 1/4" or 2/8" wide -- 1/8" less overall width.
This applies when comparing differences between chains of the same design, such as two different size o'ring chains or two different size x'ring chains.
An o'ring chain or x'ring chain would be wider than the same "size" non-o'ring chain or non-x'ring chain.
Good Fortune!
