82 ltd440 fork disassembly - how to remove the top

my manual doesnt show the air valve on here.. is there a special way to remove it? i'm trying to get at the clip so i can change the oil and the seals..how do i get that clip out at the top?

I use a two-armed puller. You need to remove the valve for this or place a pipe over it to protect it from damage. With the arms hooked under the top of the triple clamp and the bolt in the centre of the top of the fork, simply turn the bolt down until the ring is free to be removed with a thin screwdriver. Much simpler than pushing down like crazy while desperately poking around with the screwdriver only to slip just as the clip was coming out ;)

the arm puller was magic to keep the thing depressed... its still took my like an hour to get that little ring out.. i had to sacrifice a pair of tweezers, but it worked...

i replaced them with a snap ring that has holes in it so i can get at them with snap ring pliers next time..
