taller rear wheel on KZ750 CSR was created by agreendrop
I recently picked up an '82 kz750 CSR which is about to undergo a cafe transformation. It's got quite a cruiser stance at the moment, and I'm planning to lower the front and raise the rear for a more sporty stance.
There are a few things I'd like to do to achieve this:
1. Lower the front forks, either by adding a spacer or just adjusting at the tree. The front end is a bit squishy, so would spacers help/hurt that?
2. Longer rear shocks.
3. Taller rear wheel.
I'm specifically trying to get information on the rear wheel in this thread (although any help on the other points would be appreciated).
I've got a laced rear wheel with a drum at the moment, not sure the size off the top of my head, but smallish (see photo below). Would it be possible to find a complete wheel that is the desired size, or would I be better off finding a rim and having the hub laced up to that? I have no idea where to find a rim or what it costs to have it laced up.
Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks!

I might be wrong here but I think I have read on this site where the height will be similar because of the height of the side wall of the tires.
In other words the ride height is not going to change much.

Good point! Notice in the excerpt below from the Dunlop website that the diameter of the 16" stock tire (130/90-16) is 25.16” and the diameter of an 18" 120/90-18 tire is 26.44”. That’s only 1 ¼” difference in diameter which means the height difference is only 5/8”. Not much for the cost and level of effort required to make the change. Ed

Thanks for the info, guys!
I'm planning on getting an 18" rear wheel anyway, not just for the height difference, but mainly because I dislike the look of the 16". Since it doesn't really affect the height, then I'll just get some longer rear shocks for now until I can get the wheel figured out. If anyone happens to have an 18" 40 hole rim or rear wheel assembly that will work, let me know!
As far as the front fork, is it hard to rebuild? I'm also toying around with the idea of putting a modern sportbike fork and tree. Anyone know what fits nicely, or concerns that should consider?
Thanks!

I think you will find the handling improved with an 18" back tire. I have a KZ1000 LTD and the 16" rear tire kind of looks like a car tire - a flat profile. It handles like a dog compared to my other KZ's with 18" rear tires.
I find the hardest part about taking a fork apart is disconnecting the damper rod. I have it down for KZ1000's with a tool I made. I recently tried to take a KZ900 fork apart and found the "nut" at the bottom inside of the fork is different and I need something else to hold it in place.
You'll need to check and see how to take the KZ750 for apart or just take it to a motorcycle shop. The last time I did that they charged me $50 bucks though.

Hello, everyone. Please bear with me, as I'm new to the Asian bike scene... I recently acquired a 1982 KZ750r1 (GPZ750). It has an 120/90-18" on the rear. It's just too much muscle for this tire. I've been considering swapping to a 130 or 140 with a 16" wheel. Any input regarding swap-ability? If it'll be a direct swap, I may even be willing to trade for a 16" wheel
