I was wondering if anyone knew whether all the kz series bike frames were the same in design and just changed size depending on the size of engine? Or were they all the same frame with different mounting points for engine and hardware?

Thanks.

Generally speaking, the inline-four bikes break down to 3 sizes. First was the 900/1000/1100, then came the 650/700/750, then came the 400/500/550 frames.

(There was also a very early 750 motor which was based on the 900 motor size, it was called a Z2, and would fit in the 900/1000/1100 category.)

Motors in the same size category are easy to swap with minimal modifications, if any. Changing to a different category will require some major modifications.

On the 1000cc bikes I have dealt with over the year I have found small changes in brackets and hardware.
Mainly the battery box area.

I do know that a 1979 kz1000 brake pedal will not work on a 1980 kz1000.
