So I ordered my new 530 chain and sprockets from a certain company and I gave them the sprockets sizes I wanted and they sent the chain and sprockets that was supposed to fit said set-up.

As you can see by the pics. I am now going to have to remove some links. This is why I ordered it so I wouldn't have to remove links! :angry:

The last picture is with the wheel pulled all the way back and it is still loose.

If it's an endless loop chain (no master link) send it back.

It has a master link I just figured when I ordered it they would send what would be the right size (length) for the bike and appropriate sprockets. Now I'll have to work on it to make it fit.

Endless loop o-ring chains came standard on many, if not all, model KZ's (for sure on KZ650's). To replace the chain with another endless loop chain you must remove the swingarm so you can get the chain around the countersprocket. This is probably the reason not many folks replace the original chain with another endless loop. Ed

Ahh, I see. That would be a PITA. :S

Anyhow I thought when you ordered these 530 chains/sprocket sets from Z1 that they were to send a chain that would be ready to go! :dry:

I would give Jeff at Z1 a call and ask. Maybe he wasn't sure which model you have or how many links you needed. Ed

i have had to shorten every chain i ever bought.

i dont care what is was for dirtbike,streetbike,quad had to shorten all of em.

How do I know when to stop shortening it? Do you want the slack set right just at the beginning of the swing arm adjustment (all the way forward)?

I bought a setup for a TL one time and it fit perfectly.

yessir slide the axle all the way forward and put one end of the chain on the rear sprocket so it will hold it on.
then fold the chain over right where it meets the end and then make sure everything is good and grind the ends off and use a punch to separate the link,and a chisel may be needed to get the plate off.
then put your masterlink on.
you may need to use a c-clamp or vise grips to squeeze the link back together and put the circlip back on.

a wrap of safety wire helps to makes sure the clip can't come off.

I never thought about putting safety wire around the link with the clip. :woohoo: Does that stay secure and not cause any problems?

all ways had to shorten um .the clip goes on like in last pic.other way wrong .maybe that was said and i missed it good luck happy trails
