Not sure on the MKII, but on my KZ it was a simple matter of taking out the retaining set screw and then driving it out with a drift.

The set screw -- thinking small Allen head -- should be accessible with handlebars turned opposite from the lock position.

z1900, it may be your model is a tad different then mine but here is a picture of what I have. Just so happens I still had mine apart.




You can see the screw and where it installs on the triple tree (circled in red).

As a side note, does anyone know were the large washer (circled in green) is installed on the top of the steering stem? Don't see it in the parts diagram.

OK, I can respond now. Something was messed up before and I couldn't post?!?!

On the mkII the lock is on the steering neck not on the lower tree. Lets see if this pic works....

They come out by removing the door or cover which it looks like you have allready done. Then just put the key in and pull it out. Your looks like its really rusted in there!
