KZ900/1000 "duck tail" measurements? was created by scott s
Hey guys. I'm considering a KZ tail piece for a custom, non-KZ project. I've asked several people on ebay for measurements and no one will respond.
Can anyone tell me how long the cowl is? Width at front, widest point and at mounting holes?
Lastly....anyone have one they'd like to part with? B)

I have a "sweep the floor" project coming up: CB500/4 engine, CB550 frame, Lester wheels, etc. Here's my inspiration:

Well, shoot. It looks like this will be too big and, mostly, too long. The KZ650 tail as well. It works fine on the larger CB750, but would hang out way past the rear tire on a CB500/550. Dang.

I do have a tail piece from a KZ400; the shorter, boxier one. Maybe I'll see what I can do with that. I REALLY like the lower "duck tail" cowl, though. :(

I wish I had a tail piece in my hands for mock up but, unfortunately, no matter how I measure, it looks like they'll be just a bit too long for the CB550 frame.
My butt ends up right about over the shock bolt area, maybe just a tad forward. On the smaller 550 frame, that would put the tail out past the end of the rear tire. That wouldn't look nearly as good, IMO.

not a big deal

just shorten the frame a few inches

almost everyone does this anyway and that bike above is likely shortened

in fact I would bet that it is
