1980 KZ750 H1 LTD sissy bar problem

Got done riding Saturday evening and noticed that my sissy bar was broken on both sides and sliding out. Seems as though someone had cut the grab bar behind the passenger seat pad mounting bolts and took a sissy bar with a smaller OD than the grab bar ID, to include and even slightly smaller solid rod for strength, and welded in together. Long story short, behind the weld, the sissy bar broke on both sides and it was sliding on the inner solid bar, which kept it from splashing on the road behind me. Does anyone know if there is a stock sissy bar and pad, and better yet, where one might be available? Whoever did this also took a set of front blinker mounts and attached them to the horizontal section of the grab bar tube for a more streamlined look, I guess. I'll have to find OEM style blinker brackets as well. Please feel free to e-mail me on this, or any other matter involving this model of bike. Thanks!!

There may have been a stock sissy bar available from the day. It's possible that yours is a K&G universal fit backrest. A photo would be helpful. ebbaayy is usually the best place to check.

I might have more than I bargained for here in a day or two. Not long after I issued this post, which might I add was after an exhaustive search through countless ebay ads and different MC seat vendor listings, my friend who is a welder extraordinaire stopped by and grabbed it from me. He vows to make it stronger than what it was and won't take no for an answer. A short time after he left, I found one on ebay, a flat bar design, and topped the last bid by a dollar just to be funny. So far the bid is still holding. Who knows, maybe there will be a new listing on ebay soon!

I've seen some of those w the flat metal... some of them are real flat, not just square tubing.

To clear some of this up yes Kawasaki offered a very nice sissy bar for this bike through their accessory catalog when these bikes were new. They had flat metal sides and a bar made of square stock steel. There was also an option of adding an eagle emblem with the Kawasaki logo underneath as well as a backrest pad. I've attached a couple of pics of the one I had on my 81 650 CSR which I just sold to a friend for his 81 750 LTD it fits perfectly since these 2 bikes share the same frame. As was mentioned K&L also made sissy bars as well as sissy bar/luggage rack combos for these bikes they were ok but not nearly as strong as what was offered thru Kawasaki since they were made of hollow tubing and were more of a universal fit type item.

Martin if your hands hurt while putting your bike on a centerstand then you are using the wrong technique to do it. The key to getting a bike on the centerstand with ease is to step down on the arm leading from the stand using your weight to raise the bike into position NOT to try and lift it into position with your right arm. Many people try this and is is the wrong way to do it. It is more about technique than brute strength. I'm not a big guy nor am I super strong but I can centerstand a bike with ease using the right technique.

Not at all I really only use my hand to keep the bike stable and square on the stand while I step down on the lever to raise the bike. It's sort of hard to explain but easy to demonstrate I used to win a lot of bets from customers who complained about how hard it was to get their bike on the stand and I'd bet them I could do it (at the time I weighed about 125 lbs. soaking wet). These apes would say no way. I'd bet them 5 or ten bucks and then show them. The look on their faces was as the commercial says "priceless".
