Extending the life of a cracked cable shield was created by damarble
I picked up a new (used) tach cable and the housing/shield is cracked in one spot and the metal core looks to be separating a little. Don't have money for another at this time so considering a repair. Was thinking of sleeving that section with a spring and slipping heat shrink over the thing. Better ideas?

maybe heat shrink, then the spring, then some more heat shrink.
that way the first layer will keep the water out.

Might try repairing it with epoxy first, then cover it with a sheathing. HF sells two part epoxy for under two bucks. Can't tell you how many rubber pieces I repaired (MC bango bolt cover, instrument bulb rubber pieces, carb grommets and foot peg grommets, etc). It wasn't cost since all those things are cheap, but didn't want to have to wait for an order each time I tore something.

For $16 I'll wrap it in tape and run it till it breaks. Used ones are going for more than that on ebay....
Good suggestions for fixes away from home though.
