Kz front fork swap HELPPP!!! was created by Sellitto42kz
DHello, I'm new to the site. One year ago found a bike for parts 78 kz900.
The front forks are very small. on a kz900 frame. NOT orginal (im guessing).
the taper bearings say HK 320/28xj bike has the same OD outter diameter as my kz1000 but the STEM of the parts bike is smaller.as well as ID 28/52 bottom/ 28/43 top? something like that
SOO in due i ordered kz1000 tapered bearings.an they are to big for the stem.
My problem is I dont know what the forks are off. so i cant find bearings for them.
Front tire is Kawasaki J19xMT1.85 DOT Enkei-5 F-1044 dual breaks
TOP Tree says F-1044 A B
kinda stumped on finding bearings If anyone can shoot me in the right direction.
I currently have the stem pressed an machined in to a 05' Gsxr 1000 front end thought it was a kz1000 stem totaly F'd myself LOL doing a FULL gsxr swap on my kz1000 Cant wait to post
some pics when shes done.
Pictures is of the PARTS BIKE FRONT END. I had it on my 1980 kz1000ltd just cant find new bearngs for it now that the old ones are SHOT. Please help

If it was mine I'd be looking at fixing those forks or buying the correct forks along with the steering stem bearings. Those forks are so short that there is near zero travel between the lower tube and the bottom of the tree so you have nearly no front suspension - hit a pothole in a turn and you may lose control. Are you sure there are springs inside those forks; the looked collapsed? I would not be riding that bike until the problem was corrected - too dangerous. Ed

Anthony, cool pics of the kid.
First thing you should have done(if I read your post right, they are somewhat confusing) was to get the proper stem from a KZ1000 triple so your KZ1000 bearings(not sure there was a 900 in 78) would fit properly.

Looking at that front end I'd say it is from a J model 1000 that has been majorly shortened. Based on the front disc, and the air caps it is from a later model bike, I'm guessing post 81 it is from a standard model of some kind since it doesn't appear to be a leading axle design so that would rule out an LTD or CSR as being the donor. Also it has 2 bolts per side on the lower triple where the earlier 900/1000 bikes only used one. Based on what I see you have a 1000 J model front end that has been chopped down. If you can measure the fork tube diameter that will help in pinning down just what you have now.

After looking at your bike some more and comparing it to stuff I have around here I can tell you that you indead have a "Frankenbike" with parts from at least 3 different model years. Your frame is either a 79 or 80 1000B or ltd model. Your engine however is pre 79 based on the engine covers. I went downstairs and looked at some parts I have to confirm what I thought I was looking at on your bike. I looked at a 1000 J front end I have and paid close attention to the size of the steering stem, it is in fact smaller than the 1000B or LTD stem. The fork tubes however are a larger diameter and the upper clamp looks like what I can see in your pic it also has two bolts per side on the lower clamp. I think if you order a kit for an 81 or 82 1000 J (std model)you should get what you need but a call to the tech dept at All Balls Racing with the measurements would be the sur fire way to go. Good luck.
