Adapting front wheel of KZ650D (or other) 650C1 was created by Pindar
Hi Folks,
Does anyone know if the front wheel of a 1979 KZ650 D2 will fit on a 650C1 (1977)?
These are Mag wheels. It seems C1, C2, C3 are all compatible, but what about the other models?
Will the odometer gear box assembly from a C1 wheel mount on the D2? Are there spacing issues for the fork?
Any other adjustments to make?
Thanks for your help!

You may run into a problem with the tire rubbing. The D2 uses a 3.50 tire; the C1 uses a 3.25 tire, and it is already a pretty snug fit between the 3.25 tire and fenders/forks. The D2 uses different outer (lower) fork tubes than the C1, but I don't know if they were changed to give more clearance between fork/fender and tire. According to Kawasaki.com both models use the same speedo gearbox. Why do you wish to swap wheels? Ed

Thanks 650ed!
My wheel has a slight bend and I can't find a C1 front rim, but there are lots of D's and more recent models (1980's up).
You're right, the tire is already pretty snug on the C1! I'll hold back and keep looking!
Cheers!

You can use the 3.25 tire on the D rim, the D Rim is 2.15" wide vs the 1.95" (or 1.85") of the C.
I know a 110/90/19 tire will fit on a D, but it's awful close.
