Newby here, question about frames

The serial number on the engine has been tampered with. On the boss that the number is stamped into (the raise flat area) there should be a groove that runs parallel with the edges of the boss so that it looks kind of like a frame around the number. Yours is missing. This means the old number has been ground off and replaced.
Don't pay a dime more than what the parts off of this thing are worth to you.

This kind of thing shows up on this thread regularly.

Personally, I would pass on the whole thing.

Yes thats a 900 motor shoved into a newer csr chassis,no doubt about it.
Tell him you want to take it down to the dmv inspection station to have it checked out and post a picture of the look on his face when he reacts to that request! :sick: :woohoo:

thanks for all the info. i'm REALLY glad i posted this, b/c i'm supposed to go take a second look at the bike in a couple of hours, and i was probably gonna make an offer tonight. i feel a little sick with disappointment tho. :blush: back to the drawing board i guess. POOP!

It has the ridge around the numbers on cases,look closer.

bottom line, i guess, is this...is it a bad idea to put this engine into this frame? what are the possible negative implications?

You have a better monitor than me, at least he knows to look for that ridge now!

Spending time in the local jail for recieving/pocessing stolen propert,loss of your money/bike for falsified vin number on frame...........

Even the bogus numbers are not 900LTD far as I remember. I'm pretty sure frame numbers on the LTD started with KZ900B-5xxxxx as I believe they were all built in Nebraska with the 5 as the first number of the VIN. Probably an old KZ900A engine and for sure not in the KZ900 frame. Not worth anywhere near $2500 even if frame and engine were correct.

yeah the frame vin is for a 900-A4...but i guess i should say the BOGUS frame vin. :blink:
