KZ1000 A2A Front Axle

How tight is too tight when you tighten the front axle end bolts. Not fork end bolts.

Take a look in your Kawasaki Service Manual to make sure the specs for your model are not different, but on the KZ650 the Front Axle Nut torque spec is 51 - 65 ft lbs. The torque spec for the Front Axle Clamp Nuts (the ones on the bottom of the forks) is 11.5 - 16 ft lbs. Ed

if I torque it down the wheel dosent turn freely.....thats whats bothering me.

Not good. Make sure everything is installed correctly, especially the speedometer drive. Ed

I will go though it again. I have to put the brag in anyway.

This has been asked quite a few times here. The axle torque value has nothing to do with wheel rotation. The wheel will rotate just as freely at 100ft/lb as it does with finger tight axle. What usually happens is the speedo drive is not seated correctly on the wheel when tightening the axle causes bind.

well its not the spedo. I did get new bearings and had all parts powdercoated. Seams to be a 1/16 off. torqued down the wheel turns but is real real stiff. When I put bearings in I made sure to seat them 100% could the bearnings be off (wider)? no powdercoated surface inerferes with the axles fit so couldnt be that....

Well removed wheel and removed a bearing installed the brag and bearing again....bearing went in easy reinstalled the shaft and centered the axle and waala. All is good in KZ Land again.....dont ask me...didnt notice a prob during disassembly. thanks for help. Spencer
