differences in kz1000 frames? was created by chonus
wondering if there are any major differences bw say, the 77s, that have the stylish rear faring, and my 82, that has the ugly "stepped" seat? mostly wondering if that faring will fit my bike. Also i see these streetfighter builds, and i feel like the frame takes a more horizontal line than those in the pics

The entire frame is different. You could probably make some brackets and bolt the earlier tail piece on you bike but it's not a straight swap.

Thank you Doug. That sucks haha. Do you know if the older (nicer/prettier) tanks fit my frame? I plan on doing the typical front end and swingarm swap. I hope it wont look funky especially since my tank is unusual for the builds I've seen

i don't believe that the older tanks will fit your frame, with out reworking something.
a lil nip here and there with a sawzall and a lil new tubing bent and welded in and you can fit the older style tail and sidecovers.
which imho would go very well with your tank.

Ya Leon, I'm sure I can get the rear fairing to work I just need to get my hands on one and go from there. The zephyr fairing looks similarly good too. Its item #9887 on my list of things I need/ things I need to do. Item 1 is find a good motor for a decent price, nbd. Hardest part is getting ahold of stuff to see if it works, before buying it. Not much down here by way of salvage yards
Here's where I'm at now.....
