Leftover part--please help me find where this goes!

I just replaced the front sprocket on my '81 KZ440 LTD, and I have a leftover part that I cannot remember where it goes. It is some kind of cable clamp. Does anyone here recognize it and can tell me where it goes?

looks like the brake hose clamp

is it one of the clamps that your clutch cable goes through? I think it is mounted on your frame downtube in front of your gas tank.

In my early days in the shop there was an old saying "if you are short of parts your in trouble. If you have too many just throw them away"

Yes, it should be for the clutch cable, as I had removed the cable so I could clean the front sprocket cover. I was trying to find where it connected under the cover. When I get home tonight, I will see if I can find where it attaches higher up on the bike.

It is weird, though. I don't remember having removed it. Maybe it came loose long ago and slid down the cable.

Well, I went home and took another look at the bike. I found another clamp that I think you were referring to that attaches to the downtube. That one is still in place.

No, the orphaned clamp I have is different. It has a tab with a hole so it can be bolted onto something. I just can't figure out which bolt holds it in place.

does it go here?? or at the top of the tube clamps?

after looking a little closer i think it goes on the top left tube clamp to hold the cable in close to the forks...steve

You could always do as I do.. drop extra parts into the gas tank and hope that they work their way back to where they came from:P Hey !! Maybe that's my problem I'm having now!!

Okay, I'll take another look at that when I get home tonight. If that is where it goes, I was looking in the wrong area. I assumed that since I found it after having reomved the front sprocket cover, that it was supposed to be attached somewhere at the bottom. It must have come lose and slipped down long ago, and I never noticed it.
