Quick questin I just got my fork tubes from powdercoat and I'm slapping them back together but my service manual deals with a more modern bike with air forks. Just wanted to get the correct capacity for my older non air forks before I button it all up.

You cannot accurately fill fork tubes by measuring oil volume alone. With the forks fully extended (front wheel off the ground) fill each fork tube with 15w fork oil until the top level of the oil is 396mm below the top of the fork tube. Measure this distance using a wood dowel or other rod with the fork springs in place. After you ride the bike several miles check the level again and add if needed. I find Bel Ray fork oil to work great! Ed

Guessing thats old school. Every level spec Ive seen is measuring with forks fully collapsed.
And even if you didnt have an oil spec, with fork collapsed, 4 inches from top will always work.
LOL just read the old manual, thats some old school stuff lol, extended measurement.

Remember, don't work on your bike so much you never ride it.
