83 kz1100 forks on a 80kz1000e2 was created by slaughridge
long question short, just got into the forks on my newly purchased kz1000 and the po has buggerd up the top cap threads beyond repair. I have an 83 KZ1100d2 complete front end, will it bolt up to the 80 kz1000e2 frame without modification. I dont want to rip off both front ends and figure out its not gonna work. I guess my question is are the steering stems the same...

The forks on a KZ1000E were large diameter for their time, the KZ1100 was "regular" for the time. If you do swap, you'll need to use all the KZ1100 stuff, the triple trees, forks and all because they are all lighter duty/ smaller diameter than a KZ1000E. Also the KZ1000E used tapered bearings from the factory, where I don't know for sure, but would bet the KZ1100 used ball bearings, so even if you do want to swap all the KZ1100 over it will not be a fun project.

Do the replacement roller bearing numbers match for those models?
I know for a fact the pre '81 models and the '79-'80 shaft drive are different, shafty being bigger.

ZOMBIE THREAD!!!! so anyway, i ended up getting a new fork tube for the 1000 and rocking the stock forks for the last year. I've decided that i liked the air ride forks better from the 1100 so im contemplating doing a front end swap... nobody makes the 28x55x17 bearing that would be needed for the bottom of the steering stem if i swapped it straight over. my question is will the 1000 stem press out and swap directly over to the 1100 triples? Or would it be easier to get a 30x55x17 bearing and fab a 2mm spacer for 28mm 1100 stem?

Or you could get someone to make you a new fork stem to press into the 1100 triple.
