single or dual front disck brakes? was created by jareddriver93
I have a '78 kz 650, I bought pieceing it together. It got the front end with a mag wheel, and dual disc brakes. The front rim and tire was in bad shape, not to mention the rear rim and tire also in bad shape. I bought a front and rear rim and tire set online. The rear fit perfecty, the front not so. The center hub on the front new front wheel, is wider than the old wheel. Is this a wheel from a single front disc? I haven't seen a mag wheel, single.

kawasaki.com shows different part numbers for front mag wheels on 1978 KZ650 C2 (Custom) and 1978 KZ650 SR, and shows spoke wheel on the standard model.
If needed, may use the link in my signature for help with accessing info on kawasaki.com, including parts diagrams, part names, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc.

Some KZ Fr cast alloy wheels don't have bolt holes for a second disk.
Most of the 550 models are single disk. The 83 650-CSR has the same wheels a the 550-Ltd.

I think taht my be the wheel I unknowingly bought. I bought it as a KZ650 wheel, but think it maybe a 550LTd. The new wheel center hub is approx 11/16" wider than the old. The old wheel had the dual disks, and the new wheel does have the bolt hole for the dual disk. But, because of the center wheel hub, its all to wide to mount in the forks. Do you know, if the 550Ltd triple tree is wider, than the KZ? And are the shock tubes the same diamenter?

If the new wheel has bolt holes on the right side, then it isn't from a 550Ltd (I put a set of those on my 81 650).
The 550 fork tubes are the same as the 650 - 36mm (from the Ohio Cafe Racers fork tube chart).
I'd guess the new wheel is from a bigger bike, such as a 750 or 1000 - it may have the size cast into it which may aid in identification - some are wider than others. [image link broken]

That wheel don't have bolt holes under that chrome cover in the center of the wheel?
Edit:
Ah, I see, that wheel does not use the four bolt disk, it uses the big hole disks with half a dozen bolts (maybe 5).
