Rear brakes question.. was created by Draco
DISCLAIMER: Please understand that I am new to the motorcycle world, so I apologize if this subject has been beaten to death.

I am having a problem with my rear brakes. after applying the brakes, the pedal does not want to return to it's original position. I also think that the brake stays somewhat engaged untill I lift the pedal back up with my foot.
I haven't checked the fluid level in a few days, but when I last did, the level was fine. So am I in need of new pads, a new master cyl. or maybe a rebuild kit?
Or could it be something as simple as air in the system?
Thanks in advance for your input!

sounds like a return spring problem or lack of lube in the pivot point

Have you checked the return spring on the pedal to see if it is intact and free moving? This seems like the brake pedal just may need some lube (wd40) and work it with your hand until it frees up.

Here I go again thnking the worst. I didn't even think to check the return spring. With the way it is right now, it may have come off on the road somewhere.
Is that an item that Z1 would have?
thanks guys!

Doubt that it fell off. The pedal would have to fall off. Bet the pivot needs lube. Don't confuse the return spring with the one thats on your rear light switch. The pedal return spring usually is around the pedal's shaft.

I second that. The pivot point probably just needs lubed. When mine was sticking, I disassembled it, cleaned it with WD-40, and coated it with clean grease.

Well, you guys nailed it! Turns out that some penetrating lube freed everything up for now.
Took a while and a fair amount of spray, but it is better none the less.
Thanks for the tips, and a lesson learned.
Seems I learn something new here everyday.
Thanks again!B)
