How to figure proper amount of offset on sprockets

I know it sounds crazy but 5/8" seems to be all that can be used in a stock chassis, use that, machine the hub to get the chain close to the wheel and then move the wheel over to get chain alignment. You'd be supprised just how little if any you'll notice it in the handling. There is way more things that will effect handling without the headaches of this.
As we had discussed earlier, brand of tire has a big effect on your final outcome.
Did the arm mock up well?

Ya overall the arm mocked up real well. I had to push the footpeg/ exhaust hanger bars out. Also i had to put spacers in the pivot area to snug up the arm on the frame.I ran two washers on the drivers side. Also had to trim up the brake stay bracket i had you weld in. But other than that it all went in great and looks great. Les, Ill text you later on today.

WHY?

I mean even if it is just a show bike that you will never ride it's supposed to be functional...

Don't you think?

It should still be functinal. Its not off by very much. I wish i could find the topic i read on here before were everyone was discussing this. People was saying that the wheel can be off center and chances are you wont notice it. Just make sure the sprockets are in line.

the rear wheel on my 1980 z1r is off center by 3/8's of an inch which allowed me to get away with running a 3/8's offset 520 o-ring chain and a 190/200(i've ran both at diffrent times on the same wheel) series tire on a 2000 r1 rear wheel.
the hub of the r1 wheel is centered but the rim is offset from the hub.stock r1 cushdrive no machining.
you cannot notice any difference in turn in either direction, you sit in the middle of the bike and remove your hands from the bars and it goes straight down the road at 70 mph plus.

here is a pic with a 190-55/17 metzler.

no way would i even consider a 630 pitch chain, totally unnecessary imho.

I really like your bike. I think the rear rim looks really good on there. It dont bother me with it being off center. This is excatly what i wanted to do. I have a almost new race chain put it on last season. and dont have the money to spend on a new chain. Iam also in the process of finishing my motor up and moneys starting to get tight on this project. So i hate to say it but i am try to cut the safest corner i can if you know what i mean. Instead of skimping on engine parts to buy new chain i will just try to get my old one there. Already got a back sprocket on the way. Just need to get front.

You shouldn't have had to run any spacers in the pivot area. The bearing kit I sent with the arm is a brand new direct replacement, the one sold on Z1E. 4 needle bearings, 1 center tube, 2 thrust washers and 2 solid washers. As for spreading the foot peg hangers, never had to do that with this design arm and I've built many! It's not an issue having to spread it but haven't seen the need to.

Ya maybe mine was squeezed in or something but it wasnt no big deal at all. I love the swingarm. Theres nothing wrong with it that i know of. As far as the washers go i didnt see any in the box, maybe i better look again. I know the bearing kit was in there but dont remember seeing them in there. Like i said before sorry if i ask stupid questions. I try not to much. But ive never did a build like this. Gotta make sure it gets done properly so it dont kill me.

i totally understand about using the parts you already spent the cash on.
but when you go trying to get 190 mm wide rear tires in you go to losing space fast.

how bout some pics of that bada$$ les holt swingarm mounted up  ?

keep us posted,
