Hi! I'm planning on changing fork and wheels for some modern ones in the future.
But i just found a upside down fork with wheel, complete brake system and clip-ons. But as far as i remember the fork swaps i have seen on KZ's has been with forks from Japanese bikes. Should i buy or wait for the GSXR/Z10R forks ?
Can it be done ? The price is 3000 danish kroner = 520 US Dollar.
The forks come from a Ducati 750 SS and includes front and rear wheels, fork with trees, brakes and cip-ons. My bike is a 1983 Z1000-j3

I just did a front end conversion with a Buell X1 Lightning fork/wheel. It doesn't HAVE to be a Japanese front end- as long as you can machine everything to fit and work as a unit, you can do whatever you want to do.

If they are the right price and you like them, go for it. Swapping Ducati parts over here usually costs too much to justify vs. just using Japanese components. Most of the time, the easiest way with more obscure front ends like the 750s would be a stem swap. Just have a bushing machined that pressed into the Ducati lower triple and then you can press the KZ stem into it. Leave the lower KZ bearing race on so you can ensure the stem stays at the correct length/height for your steering tube. You will most likely either have to bore out or bush down the upper Ducati triple to fit the KZ stem. Then it is simply a matter of tuning the steering stops, making sure the forks and bars clear the tank and you are good to go from there. My brothers KZ /ZRX build was even easier as his KZ was the 81+ chassis that used the same bearings and stem vs. mine which needed a fair amount of fab work. Either way, good luck and post your build as there are a lot of good people on here who are good builders and can give ideas.

Simon,
To get an idea of what Cory is talking about, check my build thread. I put up pictures of how I machined the new steering stem into the KZ stem to use with the new forks.

Hope this helps.
