80' KZ1000 with 05' zx6r triples and forks?

I was just thinking this over and came up with another question. Isnt the lower triple clamp welded to the steering stem on the bottom? If it is wouldn't the triple tree have to be steel?

Yes it is but it doesn't have to be steel, just make it a nice press fit, the modern lowers have a c-clip holding it in. Take a look at my project thread to get a idea.

i parted the stem away with a port-a-band saw.
then turned the old chunk of triple that was left into the step i needed to register in the counterbore i machined into the ktm triple.
later model kz's 81 or so and up,have aluminum lowers and the steel stems have a snap ring.

same deal cut a counterbore in the lower for it to register on.

This won't be too difficult then. Now all I need is some money to but more parts....Now where did i leave all that money haha. All in due time, it will be worth the wait
