Is there an affordable 80 kz1000 ltd fork swap out there that retains much of the stock look but just improves the handling etc?

Yes, I am using the forks from a YZF600r. They are longer then the stock KZ1000 B4 forks, they are cartridge forks, they are made for a 17mm. axle (the same as your KZ), they are cheep (lots of dead YZF's out there) and Race-Tech makes all the parts you will need to set them up for your KZ.

I made them. I used the stem from an 82 KZ1000, setup the CL's at 200mm. ( same as a stock YZF, so I could use the YZF wheel if I want later on) and 55mm. offset so it will not stear like a truck. Most folks just use modern triples but thats too little offset.
