don't remove anything off your swingarm! Those sliders are tough as nails and will last well over a season of riding. Look at any modern dirtbike (CRF450 etc.) and you'll see exactly what 650ed is telling you. They are DESIGNED to have the chain drag over them. Also, The tension on them will decrease as the bike is loaded. Good luck, Paul
Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

If I look down the chain it comes to a slight peak where the pivot is, maybe an eighth too high, just resting. I know I'll need more clearance once I'm riding and things are bouncing around. A slider will only make that peak a bit higher. I know I could pull a bit of material off the pivot tube but will it be enough? How much clearance is needed there?
Don't cut on the pivot tube; that could create a bigger problem and may not keep the chain from hitting it. Here are links to the pics:

A lot more bikes use a chain slider, but I'm familiar with the ones I listed.

Be careful, the higher you lift the back end, the steeper the front end rake, and the stability decreases, and the more chance of a tank slapper.
