I found a deal on a set of 2006 GSX-R forks that is just too good to pass up. If I can't get them mounted on my bike I'll just sell them online and make a few bucks.

Wondering if anyone on here has put a modern front end on a KZ400 or similar bike? And if so, what all was involved.

Forks come with a upper triple, but no lower. So I would have to have that manufactured. (Note: My grandpa is a machinist)

Points of concern/question...
1) Making my wheel fit
2) Mounting my brake caliper
3) Triple tree

buy a stock gsxr lower triple and swap your kz stem into the gsxr lower, bush or bore your upper to match the kz stem and voila' it bolts on using the kz bearings and hardware.

custom spacers will get the wheel in there, custom bracket will make the brake fit.

Swing by my shop in Boise sometime. I have an XR600 and a Virago with modern forks. If you want, I could do a swap on yours.

I just picked up a 2006 gsxr 1000 complete front end, also came with an extra lower triple that I believe is off of a gsxr 600!
If your front end is of a 600, check KZr classified for sale.
I plan on doing a swap on my bike as well.

I would recommend a visit to the shop section of this guys site:
Cognito Moto
He happens to be currently providing parts to easily graft most years GSXR front ends on our older bikes. Im about to send him my lower triple to have him press in his new stem (measurements show it will work on my '78 650).
He's a super cool guy, drop him a line if you have any questions.

You might be able to purchase the required bearings from ALL BALLS RACING in order to make the swap of front forks without the need for stem swaps. I installed a '99 ZRX1100 front fork triple tree on my '78 KZ1000/A2 just by purchasing the correct bearings and adding three homemade shims between the '78 KZ1000 top triple tree's original steering stem cone and the '99 ZRX1100 top triple tree's 25mm nut:

Sorry I've been MIA. I ended up not picking up the forks because I thought I would be getting in way over my head. I'll probably do a modern swap on my next build.

Thanks for all the input regardless.

Bob, do you have any idea what bearings you bought, and were they in a kit from All Balls? I don't see where we can send Private Messages now. I'd like to see how this worked out for you. Do you have a build thread or any more pics of your swap?
