vin number on a 1980 kz250D was created by kjbkz250
Hi all, I need help finding the vin number on a 1980 KZ250D. Does it exist? I've found the frame and engine serial numbers but not a number that looks like a regular vin number (i.e starting with JKA, or etc). Thanks.

Hello, kjbkz250, and WELCOME to KZr!
As likely already discovered, Zedder supplies the range of frame and engine numbers , but apparently no VIN.
Per Zedder:
Frame serial # KZ250D-000001 - 010525
Engine serial # KZ250DE000001 - 016052, found on RH top, behind cylinder.
Might find some clue as to a possible VIN location in the KZ200 manual:

Am thinking most if not all Kawasaki VIN labels are on right hand side of the steering neck (at least on the models with which I'm familiar).
Good Fortune!

If the frame number you mentioned starts with "KZ250" that is the VIN. The 17 character VIN standard that I believe you are expecting to find did not go into effect until 1981. Prior to the implementation of the VIN standard, Kawasaki started their VIN numbers with the bike's model. The link below may help explain the VIN differences. Ed
