It's possible to re-grind shoes, there was actually a grinder made specifically for that purpose, but I haven't seen one in the last 40 years. 40 years ago I ground the rivets off my old shoes, riveted on new linings, then used the shoe grinder to profile them. So much dust in the air in that room that you couldn't hardly see, and I think the lining material was asbestos.
