83 750 spectre parts swap onto 82 650 csr? was created by rboutin2
I am thinking about buying a parts bike i found. I would like to use the front wheel with the dual disc, and the rear wheel with the disc on my 650 csr. My 650 is a chain of course, and the 750 is shaft. Is it pretty much a direct swap for the rear and front wheels between the two? I can get the parts bike for dirt cheap. It is a complete bike, so if I needed to swap the whole front end too i could.

The Spectre front wheel will probably work, but not the Rr.... the shaft drive rear wheel is different.
To use the Fr dual disk brake setup you will need to swap forks.
Just a note. I put the wheels from a KZ550-C Ltd onto my 81 650 - they were a direct swap.

Will it not work just because there is no spot to bolt the rod that holds the rear caliper in place? Or is it the wheel is too wide or something? how hard would it be, if possible, to swap the bevel gear assembly, shaft, swingarm and the like over onto the 650? Would it just bolt up, or is the case different?

The shaft drive is different, so the Rr wheel is completely different. And the Spectre has a Rr disk brake, while the CSR has a Rr drum brake.
Also, I don't think converting the shaft drive stuff is doable.

i know they have different brakes. I've never had my shaft on my 750 apart, so i dont know what the guts look like, but doesnt it have the same piece as my 650 where the sprocket bolts too, then goes into the rubber cush? Couldn't i just take the part with the sprocket on it and swap it onto the shaft drive wheel where the cush is? Or is there more too it i'm not seeing? I am assuming my biggest problem would be the bracket that keeps the caliper in one spot, that rod that bolts to the caliper then to the swingarm, as the 650 doesnt have that bracket on the swingarm. The main reason i was gonna buy the parts bike is to swap the wheels over on the 650, and part out the rest, using some parts for my 750 also. Is it not worth my time, trouble, and money then?

The shaft drive Rr wheel is different. You can't just simply swap stuff around.
I believe the output shaft on the transmission is different on the shaft drive models.
Check out the diagrams at Kawasaki.com or Partzilla to compare for yourself.

Fitment stuff kinda all depends upon the model. The Spectre front end swap should work - you could probably do the forks, wheel, & brake. Swapping the triple tree would probably work as well, but I don't know if the meters would be interchangeable. I think the meter bracket is different & the meter wiring is most likely different as well.
I'd guess you could use the cylinder block & pistons from the Spectre, and if need be, the cylinder head as well. I think the Spectre is the same as the chain drive 750-4s in that regard. It's fairly straight forward to put that stuff on the 650-CSR.
