Has anyone looked at using FZ1 forks for a front end swap? They appear that they would be longer than the usual sport bike donors. I am brainstorming an upgrade for my 1982 gpz 1100. I would like to give it more of a sport bike stance and handling but don't want to too radically change the geometry. Any help is appreciated. I am looking at using a zrx swing arm and shocks for the rear. It is just the front end that i am still uncertain about.

Well, anything can be adapted and you will probable have to take the same steps to adapt any front end to the KZ/GPZ. Your being later are actually much easier to adapt since they use the more modern bearing/stem size. My brother's '81 is using a ZRX front end and it practically fell into place after grinding the steering stops a bit. The ZRX fork length (31" I believe) are about the same as the GPZ, so if you are looking for USD forks in the same length, I would suggest the using the 94-97 Kawasaki ZX9R USD forks which are in expensive, work well, and the exact same length as the ZRX.

I'm installing Zrx11 forks with Zx11 triple clamps in my '83 Gpz750. The Zrx forks are no more than 0.5" shorter in free length than the stock Gpz forks. The biggest factor in overall height will be switching from the stock 110/90-18 to a 120/70-17. I'm going to lose about 1.1" from that alone. So overall about 1.5-2.0" height loss depending on preload.

The ZRX forks were also a consideration for me. I hadn't seen any lately on ebay that caught my eye and then I looked at the FZ1 forks which some their owners were switching out for R1 forks but have them be too short which made me think that the FZ1 might be long enough for the GPZ.

What triple trees are you planning on using? I was thinking of using FZ1 forks before going with the Kaw items but the prices for FZ1 (or even R1) triples were a bit ridiculous I felt.

On the www.ZRXOA.org site, there are a number of guys building ZRX's with ZX14 forks, so if you head over there, you can find a ton of front ends for good prices.

I looking for a complete swap out wheel and everything. I want to be able to get modern tire sizes and something with at least cartridge shocks. I don't need usd but would welcome it.

What about zx 14 forks? How much would I be giving up in length?
