A few years ago I got the bright idea that 2 brakes would be better than one, so went to Ebay and picked up a front wheel and forks/tree from a 750LTD, but not from the same bike, (maybe foolishly) assuming all years would be compatible. I now am ready to finally get off my ass and go forth with the project, and need brakes. My question is will any year 750 LTD brakes fit any year forks and wheel? Also without taking the front end off the 550, the stem seems like it will fit, I'm not sure about bearings. This is something I probably should have asked before starting to buy parts, but oh well.

Caliper spacing is different from early to later years. Also orientation from front hanging or rear hanging matter. You need your bleeder valves to face UP. The assembly may or may not fit your stock head assembly. Kawasaki loves to make parts that look the same. Should and could be the same...but are different. My suggestion is to look on Ebay for your 750LTD wheel. If you see it, the seller will likely list the year, too. Then you'll have an idea. Or post up some photos. I'm sure there is someone here that can I.D. it on site.

The bearings should be the same, but check part numbers. With the matching LTD
wheel you will have no problems. I do not know if the twin vs. 4 cyl. front ends are
the same width. I do know the "80 & up KZ750/4LTD is a little wider than a "78
KZ650.
