I am wanting to put modern forks on my bike project. Didn't know what would work the best. Looks are important but of coarse function is king. Thinking ZX10 or ZX14 but didn't know how much modification would be needed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Do a search for "stem swap". Once you determine the front end you want to use, then you can figure out if you have to swap a stem or just change stem bearing with adapter bearings from All Balls. Depending on what you trying to do with the bike and your abilities or pocketbook, you may want to revalue and re spring your stock forks. Then you need to think about the rear suspension and making the wheels match by either adapting your front wheel to the new forks and brakes or adapting the rear wheel from the donor bike to your stock swinger. Plenty of threads out there on this topic....

me personally i would go for the zx14 stuff as it is a larger/heavier motorcycle than the zx10.

now that shaft drive rear is going to be a little harder to get a wheel to match the front.

Leon,

You are spot on, my concern with ZX14 forks is the length. They might be a bit short. Perhaps conversion of the front stock wheel to work with the ZX14 forks might be the better bet.... Would help with ground clearance too...

96 era USD ZX9 works are the longest USD sportbike forks you can get unless you modify tube lengths. Also use a ZX7 of same year upper triple and you gain another 1 inch over the zx9 upper triple. More is involved than just a quick stem swap but I have done it on my kz1000.

If you want to go longer the VZ800 Marauder also has USD forks and these are the longest you can get by another 3 inches over the ZX9. However these are cruiser forks and not really designed for performance. You could always swap out the internals.

I have some plans for the rear too. I am going to try to install a rear swing arm from a 2007 Honda Goldwing GL1800. Mono shock and single sided. Should be cool if I can pull it off.

Has anyone used a swing arm off of a Goldwing before? I think it would look cool and I want a lower/meaner stance anyway.

anything can be done with the right tools. Start with the diameter of the bearings on the goldwing swing arm pivot. then check the KZ. I had to drill out my KZ pivot holes to fit the larger bolt from the zx6r swinger. Once you figure that out also measure the width of the gold wing pivot area and compare to the width on the frame. My zx6r swinger was wider than the frame but only by a few MM. I used a grinder and ground some from the frame on both sides. Make sure it is a sung fit. Dont want it sliding side to side.
