Patton's idea of bouncing on the bike with a ball of clay on the tire is a good idea. If you do that you should be able to see how close the tire comes to the fender which should help you figure out if the 1/2" gained by moving to an 80 profile tire is enough. 1/2" may not sound like much, but it could be the difference between hitting and not hitting. The link below has a tire height calculator about 1/2 way down the page that will let you plug in tire sizes to see the tire's height. Remember to divide the difference in height by 2 to see how much more clearance there is between the tire and fender. Ed

Yes! My front tire is a 110/90/19, and rear is a 130/90/17. I need to purchase tires this spring before riding season. I'm thinking of going with 100/80/19 in the front, and 130/80/17 in the rear.

Patton wrote: Could remove one shock, place a ball of modeling clay on top of the rear tire, set the remaining single shock to minimum spring pre-load, then mount the bike, using forceful aggressive bouncing to compress the rear suspension travel as much as possible.
(The single shock facilitates maximum rear compression, for test purposes.)
After the bouncing exercise, inspect the clay to determine what if any clearance existed between tire and fender at maximum compression.
Even without the clay, the fender may impact the tire, which should be readily noticeable by the bouncing tester.
Good Fortune!
That is a great idea to test!
