I have always assumed that my 77 front master cylinder off a A-1 is a 5/8" type capable of running 2 disks.
It is time for a rebuild and all I can find are kits that handle LTD, kz1000 A-3, A-4 ,650-C and police, they seem to come with an extra part, a small cap like thing.

Will this kit work with my MC ?
Is my MC really a 5/8" , (it is the round type) and can it support running dual disks ?

Any good source's other then Z1E, they are out of stock on the OEM: 43073-005 for duals ?

Thanks,

JD

Look at the underside of your master cylinder. It is probably marked either "5/8" or "14" The 5/8" is for dual disk, the 14mm is for single. Here's the bottom of mine (see image below). Ed

I have an original single disk front master off my 77 KZ1000a1 if you need it. It was rebuilt and will not be using it not that I have done a front and rear upgrade. PM if you need it.

Why the :pinch: ?

14mm m/c is correct for single disc, and 5/8" m/c is correct for dual disc.

Stock '77 and '78 KZ1000 had single front disc and 14mm m/c.
Dual disc front brake with 5/8" m/c was introduced on '76 KZ900-B1 LTD.
Dual disc front brake with 5/8" m/c was fitted on '78~ KZ1000-D cafe racer, and on '79 KZ1000.

Z1 single disc had 14mm m/c.
The dual disc kit available for Z1 as a factory option included a 5/8" m/c.

When converting from single disc to dual disc, the 14mm m/c should be replaced with a 5/8" m/c.

Good Fortune! :)
