Mk II shock mounts was created by greenman43
Question please guys:

I’m looking to remove the shock mounting studs from my Mk II frame: are they threaded into the frame, or a press-fit ? I’ve tried using a couple of nuts locked together, but there’s no way they’ll unwind. Ditto for using vice-grips on the shank. I suspect I may need to have a lot of heat applied, but just wanted to see how they’re fitted.

Thanks,
Brian

On the 80 A-4, it show the shock bolt threading into the shock mount.

Thanks, but it's actually the upper mount i'm talking about - the diagram shows the lower mount, where the shock attaches to the swingarm.

It did give me an idea, though, to check the parts diagram on buykawasaki.com: no separate part shown for the stud.

Cheers,
Brian

The top mount is welded to the frame and the threaded portion is part of the mount.
It is not a stud so will not unscrew.

Those that remove them cut them off.

The mkII kzs are worth a bit of coin though may want to consider not doing permanant irreversable mods to it

Thanks guys, looks like I'll be cutting them off. The difference between my Mk II and a steaming pile of crap is mostly the steam, so no problem making irreversible mods - there's no real value there to preserve.

Cheers,
Brian

LOL, given the condition of my bike when I got it, they went up that notch quite a while ago !
