Converting to Dual Disk Brakes 1977 KZ1000 was created by chconger
Hi Guys
Just went out for my first ride on a KZ 1000 in 20 years...Was actually my first ride on a bike in 20 years.
Exhilarating!
Anyhoo...
This winter I rebuilt my masters and calipers, and put in new stainless lines, passed a safety check by a kawai dealer with no issues..and still, that single front disk wants a hell of a squeese to slow in a hurry. More than I recall from[strike] years[/strike] decades ago. Maybe the new pads need to work in, or perhaps I am a feeble old man now...but I want real good brakes if I am going to do this thing!
To convert to dual; is there anyone that sells a kit, or do I have to piece it together? If the latter, is there a list of stuff to buy?
Thanks
Chris

It depends on how much time you have, if you want it right away you can find everything you need just make sure the master cylinder fits a 7/8 handle bar and is a 15.8 mm or what is referred to as a 5/8 master cylinder.
(NOT)the 14 mm that your bike came with, you need to push more fluid for the brakes to work properly.
Some have a place to attach a mirror, others do not.
You will need a 4 way splitter with a brake sensor or get a MC that has a sensor built in.
There is a lot of Chinese stuff out there and probably some good Japanese and American MC's but they will cost you
I'm using stock parts and rebuilding everything, the parts are out there and if you have some time you can find good deals.
Good luck,
JD

For brakes take a look at this upgrade by Steell, he is on this forum.
kz750twins.com/?p=131
His upgrade is nice because it's all Kawasaki.
