Front Fork Studs

There are four studs on the lower end of the front forks. On my KZ1000A, after pulling the forks to replace the seals, I discovered that three of these studs have to be replaced. I will have to tap new threads internally on the forks and do the same for some 8 mm stock for the studs. I need to know if the end of the stud that is screwed into the fork is a left or right handed thread. Thanks.

Were the studs boogered up? I never tried taking them out, but it would seem like they would all be standard righthand threads, all the nuts that go on them to hold the axle are right hand thread, correct? If the stud had a left hand thread, you could be loosening it as you tried to tighten the nut? Somebody let me know if I'm talking out my a$$ again, I can go back to giving Ambergris a hard time:lol:
(Way back, I had a crappy trailer cobbled together from old Jeep parts; I didn't know that they had left-hand lug nuts on one side... just about killed myself trying to get those off!

they are regular right hand threads you can use the studs from another set of legs if you have some,z1s and kzs use same studs.im not sure what grade of steel they use on the stock ones but id be leary of just threading some rod and screwing them in there is a lot riding on those 4 little studs and nuts.:S

Thank you gentlemen. It is amazing the front end even stayed on while riding...every time I do something to this bike I find yet another thing the PO messed with and screwed up:angry:

I think I know the answer but I'm looking for someone to confirm it. The question is: are KZ1000A2 front forks a direct 'drop-in' for a KZ1000A1? The inner fork tubes (sliders) on the A2 are a different kawasaki number than the A1 and the internals are also different. The fork bottoms are the same kawasaki number.

yeah can swap the complete forks out,or you can just swap the studs for the caps if your forks are in better shape.
