I think i have a odd ball year of bike and it's making my search for gauges a little more challenging. i have the original gauge cluster that came on the bike. It looks like a true 1980's relic. A big rectangular cluster that had "fancy" Gold trim around the two half's. The headlight is no better looking very similar to the ones i had in my 1989 Ford F-150, Anyways, It has a mechanical speedo and a electronic tach. I'm not interested in keeping the bike stock but i really don't want to spend $300 on some fancy all in one. I will be going to a round headlight at some point and I like the way the dual pod gauges look on the older KZ and Cb's .
Any ideas or suggestions would be great.
Thanks for your time!

I know your pain. I've gone through 2.5 sets of these extremely rare clusters now. For some reason the speedo keeps dying violently. On my first one the tach needle eventually popped out. The one I'm using now has no speedo (gears are all chewed up) but I gauge my speed off my tach and gear. It's very reliable, of course.
I would LOVE to upgrade my gauges to a modern all-in-one, but don't know where to begin. Our bike is an oddball, like you say. No one seems to have mechanical speedos with electrical tachs...

Newer ZX models have electronic tach with mechanical speedo, 1990-2001 ZX11 does, and I think the early ZX9 and ZX6 did also.
I think I have both ZX11 and ZX6/9 if you want to try them, and maybe even a spare ZX11 harness with the dash plug in.
Another option is to convert to electronic speedo. Just mount a pickup on the front fork and use a steel rotor bolt for the trigger. Just use your imagination.
ZX10R gauges weigh ounces, as compared to the pounds of the others, plus they just plain look cool.
