Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

I need to get the steering lock off my bike. I do not see a set screw to lock the tumbler into the boss. It kind of looks like the cover that riveted to the boss keeps the tumbler in place but I am not familiar with it. So if I grind off the rivet and remove the cover will the tumbler come out and then can I cut off the boss for it? Reason is I have a CSR headlight mount plate that the boss interferes with. Just doing a little custom work and do not care about the lock. Can't find a breakout. Thanks.

That thing that looks like a rivet is a weird screw that can be pried out. Give me a minute and I'll post a picture and instructions. Don't cut it or grind it, that isn't necessary. I'll be right back. Ed
OK, here's what that rivet thing looks like (see images). It is just pushed into the hole and it can be pried out. I took mine out to replace the little chrome cover plate that had rusted. I put a thin flat screwdriver between the plate and the steering neck and gently pried it out moving the screwdriver form one side of the plate to the other. It came out with no damage to anything. If it is really stubborn you may want to soak it a bit with penetrating oil (I didn't need to though). If you cut it off it will be a big challenge to get the stub out. Ed

Cool Ed but i have to cut off the boss for the lock as it tnterferes with the mount. I just do not want to cut the tumbler. I do not want or need the lock. Thanks.

Ed you are correct. The screw just prised off. I discovered that you have to have the key in the tumbler to remove it. So tumbler is out and boss cut off. Now have plenty of room for new mount. Going to seal it, paint it and done. Boy.... I miss my gurus. My father and my uncle. Funny, but on another 650 site I used my uncles old moniker and a guy named Rob remembered them. Since I share my name with my uncle I liked it and used it there. I miss them both every day. Still, again Ed you are great help. Thanks.
