Fork Leg Swap and Rear Mount Caliper? was created by kzdcw
I have a 77' KZ1000A and have been working diligently reviving an abandoned non-running soul. Able to free up the master cylinders and getting them work again. The front brake caliper is frozen but am thinking about purchasing a 78' and later caliper to mount it on the back side of the fork legs instead of the front. I understand to do this is to just swap outer fork legs around to get the mounting lugs to face the rear of the bike? Is this correct and all I would have to do is find the right caliper? I want to run stainless brake lines directly to the caliper.

Swap the fork legs side to side. Then just buy a left caliper from a '78 Kz1000 or even some 650/750's for the left side. Also behind the chrome cover on the right side of the rim should be 4 tapped holes in case you want to add a second brake rotor.

Doug, That's kind of what I thought by just looking at my bike. Anyone have a good used LH caliper for sale?

You will also have to change the brake mater cylinder, to one for dual disk. I believe its a 5/8 bore?

I'm just going to run 1 disk. Should be able to get by with the same master cylinder don't you think? It will be like a 78' KZ1000A2.

You can use the same mastercylinder.
