KZ speedometers and Tachs? was created by kzdcw
Did the Kz1000's ever come with a 140mph speedometer and 8500rpm tach?

I believe only the 900's (and maybe 650/750's) have a 8500rpm redline due to their lighter crankshafts. I can't remember about the speedo's.

My memory is fading too, but I think all the 1000s up til 1980 had a 160mph speedo, then of course the 85mph unit started in 1980. 8500rpm wast the correct tachometer I believe on the 1000s

I think you're right on the tach. I know the 900's had a higher redline by 500rpm's so maybe they had a 9000rpm redline. I guess I should go take a look at my '78 1000 and see.

No 140mph on a Kaw 1000 or 900. The 650 and 750 have them for sure....probably the smaller bikes too. From what I remember about the tach.
Looks like all the 900's had a 9000 rpm redline, all others are 8500. Here's some great info on the 900 gauges from Z1E:
