530 pitch counter sprocket was created by skooterbum4real
On my 1980 kz750H, I have a 530 pitch 16t counter sprocket. I thought my recent 530 conversion lowered my cruising RPM's. I must have had a strong wind pushing me when I test drove it, because it still winds up to high for me, when running 75 mph.
Z1 has a 17t counter, but they don't know if it will actually fit in the space available, without the chain hitting. They referred me here to see if anyone on the forum has any experience with running a 17t on the 1980 kz750h bikes.
Will the 530 pitch 17t counter sprocket fit my bike ??

Sorry, I know that a 17T will fit on a 750B (which is a twin) because I am running it on mine. I think your H model is the four cylinder?

Yes it will work. I have a 17t sprocket on my KZ650 and it fits just fine.

What size is youre rear sprocket? Ive run the 530 conversion on several 900-1000s over the years with 16/40 gearing, its very interesting to say the least! :woohoo:

I have the 530 pitch, 16t counter, and a 38t rear. It takes off from a dead stop just fine, so I'm completely comfortable adding a tooth to the counter, if it fits without having to remove the metal shield that protects the wiring.
I wish I had paid close attention to the spacing / clearance, when I installed the 530 16t just a few weeks back......
When I talked with Z1, I asked them for the maximum gearing available to lower my cruising RPM's. They said the best they could do is the 16 and 38. Then I find out there's a 17t available. I wish they would have discussed this with me then ?? Maybe they didn't mention it because they are not sure if it fits the 80 kz750H ??
Well for no more than they cost, I think I will just go ahead and order it and see if it fits.... If it doesn't, then I will put it on my kz650......
