I'm going to replace the seals but just to be sure and not ruin the new paint on the cover I'm considering switching. I've been reading about DOT5 online and the conversations are just as interesting as opinions on what brand oil to use.
One thing....is regular old drug store rubbing alcohol the right thing to use to clean the parts prior to switching?

This means that no amount of normal bleeding will ever remove all of the glycol fluid from a system changed over to Dot 5. The old glycol fluid will pool in the calliper because it is heavier and not come out the brake bleeder fitting. This will cause corrosion problems in the long run.
Do the work now or pitch it later, there is no short cut. 80B4 is correct, but why listen to us?

That's what Ive always used to clean rubber parts for brake and fuel systems, never had an issue.74ullc wrote: I've been considering switching to DOT5 on my 1984 Honda Interceptor clutch. It has a tiny leak from the weep hole on the slave cylinder that drips down the sprocket cover. One drop a month or less.

The above struck through info is bogus. As Plummen points out below brake cleaning fluid should NOT be used on rubber or plastic brake parts! Sorry about the mistake!

Plummen you are absolutely correct!
I got off my lazy ass, went to the basement, and read the warnings on my CRC Brakleen can. It says PROTECT RUBBER PARTS FROM SPRAY! I fixed my posting above. Thank you for correcting me! Ed

If you cant control yourself to weed out a few hours or a day during the summer to do right, wait till winter and take your time.
I can remove my front master cylinder, dual brake calipers, dissemble, clean, reassemble and be riding that fricken day.....with the piece of mind its done right????
I guess I'm a rarity in this fast pace life......maybe a bit over the top in my preparation and work ethic......well ..... No.
