z1000R / GPz1100 tank fuel tap location was created by Tyrell Corp
Can someone tell me if a GPz1100 B1 B2 fuel tank can be used on a z1000R? Is there something about the gpz tank fuel tap location that gets in the way of cv34 carbs? thanks

You want the B2 tank...the B1 tank has the petcock placed too far anteriorly where it will interfere with the tops of the CV carbs. There are 'fixes' that allow you to use a B1 tank but it is much easier to use the drop-on B2 tank.

ok thanks....

Where I am at is a rolling chassis and short engine on a Lawson rep 1000 R2 rebuild, waiting for the block to be bored out 1170 and slowly working on the cylinder head.

Thinking ahead I picked up some gpz bodywork years ago and sprayed it very nicely in lawson stripes on bright kawasaki racing green ;) . Now getting a sinking feeling that the GPz1100 tank fuel tap is too far forward.
I'd rather know now then find out just when I'm finishing it.

What are the 'fixes' ? I can find another tank and spray it no problems but fuel tanks for that are £££ now.

Here are some photos of the KZ1100 B1 and KZ1100 B2 tanks and placement of petcocks, pressure valves, and gas gauges. There is also a photo of a B1 tank that has had the petcock moved to where it occurs on a B2 model.

A fellow on KZRider had a 1981 KZ1100 B1 fuel tank that he didn't want to relocate the petcock on so what he did was trim off part of the threaded pipe that the petcock screws onto, replaced the petcock with a brass T-elbow (so the brass valve sat more flush with the tank and cleared the top of the carbs...oriented the exit pipe with fuel line from the elbow to across the top of the motor (rear of the tank) and have it exit on the other side of the motor...he then installed an in-line on/off valve for the fuel line.

Thanks for that info and pics McDroid just what I wanted to know.

Body kit came complete with hard to find front fairing and clamps, so I'm hoping it was a b2 model.

Odds are it is a B2 model. The fairing for the 1981 B1 model was really strange looking and completely different than the 1982 model...some folks attempted to put the B2 fairing on the B1 model, but the large instrument pod really interferes with mounting the B2 fairing correctly.
