Ok
then your rpm @ 60 mph should be less than my current 5000

Like Ed said something must be wrong

bike is under a cover in the carport. I can't even look at it until mid March when the temperature warms up and the snow melts.

Good luck

That was a federal mandated speedometer that has nothing whatsoever to do with the top speed of the bike. When running properly and with the stock sprockets the KZ750 4 cylinder bike will exceed 125 mph. Ed

I actually remember that idiocy.

People may not remember that they actually introduced legislation to force car makers to put circuitry in the cars to make the lights flash and horn blast if the speed went above about 75. That never got put into law, but what a time it was.

The DOT made them change the gauges. No votes were involved. Don't think it won't happen again. "You can keep your old plan, you can keep your doctor if you want to".

Either way some of the guys in my area said it should be fine on the engine as long as im not racing it, and it could be beneficial on the clutch

Sounds like if you are drag racing this setup should be fine. If you using it as a city bike it would be ok. If you take it on the highway a lot you are wearing it out twice as fast and likely getting half the mileage.

It's a trade off. Jack rabbit starts or purring along at 70. I do more HWY riding out here. Everything is at least 20 miles away. Tall gearing makes the most sense out here. B)

Something is terribly wrong; PLEASE help us understand what you are riding. What year and model motorcycle do you own? There has never been a 4 cylinder KZ750 model that would not exceed 120 mph. I know this from personal experience, but if that isn't enough here are specs on a 1980 KZ750 LTD. Notice the top speed is 125 mph (and that was the slowest KZ750-4 model). Ed

With the new sprockets setup, it might not even make it to 100 now, unless he wants to risk killing the engine.
