Z1R Gas tanks and gas caps was created by Kapahulu
Suddenly there are a lot of Z1R gas tanks for sale on E-bay. I've been thinking about buying one to put on my KZ1000. Funny thing is, most of the Z1R gas tanks don't include the gas cap. And try finding one - apparently they're different from other gas caps, not easy to locate and expensive too! I wonder why so many of the tanks have the gas caps removed?

Question: why are they selling tanks without gas caps?
I didn't answer that.

I think swest is suggesting that people are selling the caps separately because they are so valuable. They want to get more for the separate tank and cap than selling them as a unit.

Ok now I got it. At the time I wrote the first post I think there was one NOS gas cap for a Z1R priced around $100.
Today, there are five Z1R gas tanks on E-bay, all without gas caps. And there are no Z1R gas caps for sale.
It doesn't appear that people are removing the gas caps and selling them separately.

Probably, tank was pulled from bike 10-20 years ago, tank looked okay, crappy paint but it's just paint right? Cap had pitted scuffed up chrome, nobody would want that, why replate it? It's just a junky old motorcycle, and BAM it hits the trash can.
Fast forward to now, woops, no cap. Whatever happened to it?

78 model tanks and caps are different from 80's also.
78 caps set off to the side and flush.
80 caps sit proud of the tank and in the center.
there are also larger capacity 80 euro tanks.

My question is why would you want to switch tanks? Is the Z1 R bigger? I never liked them but 130 miles on a tank sucks too.
