Shock Help. was created by Jaguar6165
Hello, I'm new to the forum, but a friend of mine bought an 88 Kz1000 police bike and I am trying to help him get it on the road. Looking for shock recommendations. He is about 300lbs and the bike also has a sidecar (if that makes a difference). Any info would be great! Thanks!

My dad put progressive suspension coil overs on his 1200 voyager and he seems to like them. I personally like air ride suspension but I am not sure how you would run air lines to the sidecar. Happy hunting!!

Whats the best way to measure for fitment? I am having trouble finding shocks specific for this bike. I found some stock replacements, but was looking for something like Progressive which I have on my bike. Are there certain areas of the shock to measure other than the length, mounts and maybe diameter?

Personally I just went off of length, but you will also need to know what bushings you will need. I would suggest emailing Progressive suspension for more info

I emailed them before and they said they had nothing that they knew of that worked. I guess if I email them with the size of the shock they might know of something that would fit, but going just off of the model they don't.
Thanks for the help.

I tend to go a bit longer on rear shocks, sharpens the steering up and suits my height. You can go the other way too if you want it a lower seat height.
Unless you are paying big money for ohlins or similar and dial them into your weight then most big bikes shock's fitments tend to be an approximation based on length and eye or clevis fork fitting plus a bag of different bushes and C spanner to adjust preload.

The guys at Z1 enterprises were very knowledgable when I bought progressive shocks. If the rider weighs 300 pounds, he would probably want to go up on spring rate a little over stock. I would be surprised if there was nothing available for the KZ1000, they made so many of them for the local PD out here.
