1980 KZ1000 LTD Master Cylinder? was created by Montiesq
Hi fellow old Kaw guys
I am new to the forum today.
I ran into a dead end looking for a rear brake master cylinder for my bike. Kawasaki is useless NLA and no one even seems to have a kit for it. Any idea?
Any help pointing me in the right direction would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Monti

Hello, Monti, and WELCOME to KZr!
Wondering if the m/c has been disassembled and cleaned, and the bore inspected to determine extent of any pitting, and the piston cups examined for damage.
A pre-owned m/c might be in worse condition.
Sometimes the piston remains serviceable if the cups remain in decent shape.
If the bore is pitted beyond restoration, a new piston likely won't return the m/c to serviceable condition.
If the bore can be dressed to serviceable condition, but the piston is shot, perhaps we can help locate a serviceable piston.
Do you have the part number of the piston?
Will try to find and post a diagram of the m/c, showing other parts that might or might need replacing, such as cir-clip, dust cover, plastic piston retainer.
Good Fortune!

You wont find one, I looked for months, 1980 LTD 1000s were the ONLY year that used that style of rear master cylinders, that's why it's impossible to find a rebuild kit, so I eventually called & talked to JIM, at Redline Cycle, he had worked on my bike before
he sold me a few rubber O rings & the rubber cup that goes on the bottom , maybe the plunger too ...I cant remember, Its been a few years now , he charged me around 50.00 ....which I thought was ridiculous , but he said it would fix my problem ....& it did ...& I was a Happy Camper
Pete
This is info ...ask for Jim ....Good Luck Redline Cycle Service, Inc.

43020-1015 rear m/c piston
www.cycle-parts.com/ShoppingCart.aspx
Allows "adding to cart."
wehaveyourmotorcycle.blogspot.com/search?q=43020-1015
Claims to have the piston.
For these two suppliers, would call ahead to verify actual availability before sending any money.
We know from experience how some suppliers list everything and then later report NLA.
