Hey guys... new to the forum. Im using an 80 440 front wheel n a 79 1000 rear wheel on a project bike. I was wondering if there were any rotor upgrades for either end. I dont wanna go w a dual caliper setup on the front. Just basically wondering if there might b floating rotors, stock off different bikes, or bigger diameter rotors that might fit the wheels bolt pattern. Im using custom calipers n havent mounted them yet so i can go w a bigger diameter n just mount the calipers to make up for the extra diameter. Any help would b GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Larry
PS... I did do a search thru the forum n only found threads about adding a caliper n a drum to disk swap. Just wanted to state i wasnt bein lazy n askin a question that the forum already has gone over a million times.

I think a free floating rotor is gonna be out of the question with our 4 bolt setup(I've got a 440 also, wheel) The 440 rotor is drilled and a two piece, but it's a solid two piece. With lots of ingenuity, you might be able to get the rivets drilled then get the floating hardware from brembo, willwood or the likes. Of course I could be totally wrong with all of this and making an ass of myself :dry:

Ed is right, the 4 bolt pattern nearly ensures that nothing will bolt up. If you have access to a lathe you can make an adapter. here is an example a member "fishhead" made

Many thanks guys. Both great ideas bein the aftermarket is ziltch.
Any idea if the stock rotors were available in different sizes? Maybe 1000 rotors were a tad bigger than the 440 for my front setup? The reason thats got me askin is i bought a rear wheel that came w everything... wheels, axle, spacers, cush drive, rotor, n caliper. Was told it was off a 79 police bike. The aheel has a 79 casting mark. It was all SUPPOSED to have come off from the same bike but the caliper bracket is too short to fit on the rotor n have the axle hole in that caliper bracket line up w the wheels axle hole. The only thing i can think of is the rear wheel rotor came in at least 2 sizes, and the caliper bracket isnt off the same bike as i was told. Its not off by much but not much means no go... lol. Can u guys shed any light on, front and rear, if there is larger diameter rotors between a couple model years (77-78-79-80), maybe models (police bike), or different size bikes (400-440-900-1000)? Again, both 4 bolt rotors. Lookin at the side profile of my bike the rear rotor looks HUGE compared to the front. Usually its the opposite. Appreciate the help dudes!

I just remembered that EBC makes their "pro lite" rotors for the kz1000. fronts and rear, kinda spendy, but nice very rotors. I am not as familiar with the 440 as the 400, but the 400 front wheel has the same bolt pattern as the 1000, however the bolt holes are M8 instead of M10 like on the 1000. if the 440 is m8 you could get some shoulder bolts to take up the slack, otherwise i think it would bolt up.

I spotted them on an ebay search before i came here. The pic had a 6 bolt rotor, but i figured it was a stock pic. I wasnt sure what year kawasakl went to the different bolt pattern... cant remember how many bolts they were but it was more than 4... lol. Think it was 8 er so. Theres a listing for the rear, 79-80 1000ltd n also a kz1000 police (i was told my rear was a police bike wheel). Im not sure what the diameters r between all those bike models offered in 79, the year my wheel was cast. I think theyd b the 4 bolt hub tho. Theres a listing for an 82 440 front ebc rotor (my front wheel is an 80), and again, im not sure what year they went to the 8 bolt hub or the diameters between the bike models, but like u said, the 1000 might work w a different bolt. Im thinkin a few questions to a couple of the ebay sellers would answer those questions tho. I got a pm in to fishhead too, as u pointed his setup out. Ebc is an option. Pricey indeed! Ooo... spotted the diameters on the ebc rotors on the z1 site! Didnt notice it the first time i looked. 290 rear is 11-27/64 or 11.41732283464567. 296 front is 11-21/32 or 11.653543307086615. For the english measurment only dudes. Gotta go measure mine but i kno for sure my front rotor is smaller than my rear... just not sure how much. Gonna go measure em now.

Measured my rotors. Figured id post the measurements just in case someone needs the info n stumbles on this thread.
-My 80 440 front rotor-just over 10-7/8" (probably 268mm, rounded up to the nearest whole mm) outside diamter, 4.5mm min thickness, center bore 2.5", smaller bolts than rear 1000 rotor (doc called that)
-My 79 1000 rear rotor-just over 11-3/8" (probably the same 290mm that the EBC rear is), 6mm min thickness, center bore 2.25"
Hopin the 1000 ebc front rotor has the same center bore as the 440 hub. The bolts i can overcome as doc said. The front diameter is a bit bigger too which rules. EXACTLY what i was lookin for... a lighter, bigger diameter (larger than my rear rotor too, just for asthetics personally), floating rotor. Thanks doc!... and ed too. Yer rotor looks bitchin in the pic where its all painted up by the way. Gonna wait to hear back from fishhead before i pull the trigger on the ebc rotors.
