first post... rear wheel stuck was created by fpdavis4
Alrighty, first of all this is my first post. Although I have lurked through these forums quite a bit since purchasing a 1981 kz750 ltd last summer. So to cut to the chase, I got a new rear tire and I cannot for the life of me get the rear wheel to fit in the swing arm. I have a manual and a parts diagram for the rear axle. Everything seems to be there and correct. But the outside two spacers basically inhibit the wheel from entering the swing arm. I just want to check and make sure I have everything in the right spot. Attached are the pics. I know... embarrassing

Spacers are not located correctly. Take another look at the parts diagram. Also, post an image of that diagram here so we can help. It doesn't seem to be available online. Ed

The sprocket side spacer does not look right. I think you have them wrong side or wrong way around. I have done the same. If you are sure all the pieces are there but the wheel won't fit then the only logical reason is reassembly wrong way or in the wrong order.
If you look very carefully at the parts diagram there are subtle differences between spacers and the way they should be oriented.

welcome to the site

good luck

I know something seems off... I know I sound like an idiot but I am pretty mechanically inclined. I will post a picture of the diagram in about an hour. I tried switching them but the one on the right definitely goes there, since it fits perfectly into the grease seal and prevents the brake from rubbing on the disk. The left side looks off but I do not know where else it could go. Jr, I don't know if you remember but I contacted you through instagram a while back and through email. Many of your posts on jetting, pods, and cleaning carburetors have helped me immensely.

Look at the witness marks. The big one on the left goes into the seal,There should be a spacer between it and the swing arm. There should be a spacer between the brake arm and the other side of the swing arm. The rest should fall into place.

Here is the diagram. Number 3 corresponds to the left spacer, leading me to believe it is in the right spot. Number 19 corresponds to the right spacer. I measured them both and the lengths are the same as the diagram suggests. What witness marks are you referring to Steve? Also I do not think I have a spacer to put in between the brake arm and right swing arm.

It is not letting me upload the picture. I click submit and it loads a blank page with the url kzrider.com/forum

The large spacer on the right has a mark where the seal rides. the left should have one too.

The right one does and it fits perfectly. The left one has a mark as well but it cannot be from the seal since it is too big to fit into the seal.

Maybe it's the wrong spacer? Ed

I thought the same thing, but the width is exactly 19.5 mm as it says in the manual.
